The Desperate Virgin

Hollywood films, like any form of media, can twist and manipulate our view on the world. However, today I watched an interview with a woman even more tragic than the film '40 year old virgin'.

The interview was with a 43 year old woman, who has been raised a catholic, and lived her whole life in chastity and sexual frustration. That was untill January, when she decided to loose her virginity....with an 'escort'.

I'm still shocked...she went through internet sites looking at escorts and picked one out like picking a tin of beans off the shelf at Asda.

I think this is incredibly sad, but even worse than that, is her church have let her down. Sex has always been a taboo subject to her, her family and her congregation. Look where that has got her, she can't get her virginity back, and she lost it to a male prostitute.

I think this raises questions about how the church should deal with the subjecgt of Sex. When I was leading a cell group for some guys who were all aged about 16, that was the number one thing on their mind - and so we tackled the subject head on. There we were in a church, talking about masterbation, sex, foreplay - and relating it to the bible.

It's a common misconception that the bible isn't relevant when it comes to Sex, that isnt true! Read some of Pauls notes on Sex within a christian community in Corinthians....it's like a script from the Jerry Springer show!

It's all been done before.

So, how can we SUPPORT virgins in the church? Unfortunately, Sex before marriage is a more and more prominent in todays society, so, do we accecpt it? do we cast it out? do we start our own 'silver ring thing' movement?

I have no idea, but I know that I will support the people I do know who are lucky enough to still have their virginity a lot more than I did before.
